Jay Shah: Cricket West Indies CEO explains BCCI secretary's unopposed election as ICC chair

With Jay Shah joining ICC, Cricket West Indies CEO Johnny Grave is expecting that the Indian administrator will help ICC pull off lucrative media rights deals as he did at BCCI.

Cricket West Indies CEO Johnny Grave has revealed why BCCI general secretary Jay Shah was elected unopposed as the next ICC chairman. Jay Shah at 35 is set to become the youngest ever ICC chairperson and his tenure will start in December 2024. Grave praised Shah for his remarkable achievements at BCCI since joining the body in 2019. The West Indies cricket official said ICC members were not interested in playing “internal politics” when Shah applied for the post as he has helped the Women’s Premier League become a reality in India, also orchestrated IPL signing a mega media rights deal, and successfully oversaw the hosting of ICC ODI World Cup in 2023.

Lucknow Super Giants have appointed former India pacer Zaheer Khan as their mentor ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.
The appointment will mark Zaheer’s return to the management fold in the IPL after two years, having previously spent five seasons with five-time champions Mumbai Indians from 2018 to 2022.
Zaheer will take over the role that was left vacant last season after current India head coach Gautam Gambhir moved to take over the Kolkata Knight Riders mentorship last season. While KKR went onto lift the title, Lucknow finished seventh in the standings in their third IPL season.
